The DBT STEPS-A curriculum is designed to be delivered by general education teachers as a class that teaches all students coping strategies and decision making, especially under emotional distress. There are four primary modules that the curriculum covers: mindfulness skills, distress tolerance skills, emotion regulation skills, and interpersonal effectiveness skills. These skills have been shown to be effective in working with adolescents who struggle with emotion regulation issues. Given the importance of these skills and the emotionally difficulties many adolescents experience during middle and high school, this social emotional learning curriculum is designed to be an integrative component of the academic curriculum for middle and high school students.
